Kiss the Wave

Caring Bridge Journal Entry — Apr 15, 2018

Do you have older, wiser role models in your life to give you wisdom when you need it most?  I have several.  Thank the Lord!  One of them, my sweet Clydette, sent me this quote early on in my crisis.

"I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages."

It's been attributed to Charles Spurgeon and "Rock of Ages" is one of the names of God.  It's a reminder that he is solid, immovable, unbreakable, faithful.  He is everything I want when my world is spinning out of control.  To "kiss the wave" means to see the trial as a gift because it brings me back to Jesus, my Rock of Ages.

After she sent me that quote, I read it a few weeks later in a little picture on social media.  Then, later, I read it in a blog post by Desiring God.  It was coming at me from all directions.  Synchronicity? Or a message that God really wants me to get?  I think the latter.

We all suffer.  Money is tight.  Co-worker is a pain.  Child is wayward.  Or a scary new diagnosis.  They are all waves pushing us toward the Rock of Ages.  The question for me is: Am I going to try to resist the wave?  Or will I allow it carry me, change me, and remind me of where my security is?I'll admit, sometimes I fought the wave.  But I'm settled into the current now. There is hope when I'm reminded where solid ground lies.  It lies in my Lord and Savior, my Rock.
